2 medium onions, thinly sliced (I used those big red ones but you can use your favourite kind)
3 tbsp butter
1 tsp olive oil
2 tbsp raw sugar (or brown)
1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp allspice (or your favourite spice)
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
120 g brie cheese, rind removed and softened (i.e. leave at room temp for 30 mins)
1 egg, lightly beaten with 2 tsp water
The pastries look like little hearts/pretzels
- Heat oil and butter (I always put a bit on oil in when cooking with butter so it doesn't burn).
- Cook onion with sugar, allspice and vinegar until soft and golden brown.
- When the onion is cooling, preheat oven to 200 degrees (180 if using fan-forced).
- Spread brie over the puff pastry.
- Cover with onions.
- Roll up one side to the middle, repeat with other side.
- Use a serrated knife to cut 3 cm slices and place on baking tray lined with baking paper. Press the pastries so they're sort of 'sealed'.
- Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Brush with egg mixture.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden.

Are they cholesterol free? Sorry, I just eat what I watch :)
ReplyDeleteHi anonymous, I don't think they are since the ingredients include puff pastry, cheese, butter and egg. You might want to try substituting some of the ingredients to omit some of the cholesterols. Thanks for your question :)
